About Dovid Lichtenstein
Dovid Lichtenstein was born and raised in the Sheepshead Bay section of Brooklyn, NY. His parents, who worked as public school teachers, instilled in him from a very young age a love of knowledge, a strong work ethic, and high ambition.
Mr. Lichtenstein became interested in real estate early in his adult life, and in 1986, he scraped together $89,000 to invest in a two-family home in New Jersey. Within just two years, this investment grew into the Lightstone Group, which is now one of the largest privately-held real estate companies in the United States.
Prior to his business ventures, Dovid studied in the Mirrer Yeshiva in Brooklyn, and later in the Mir Yeshiva in Yerushalayim and in Beth Medrash Govoah in Lakewood, NJ. Over the course of his intensive Talmudic studies, carefully analyzing and scrutinizing ancient and recent halachic texts, he developed a passion for contemporary Halacha, a passion that he nurtured and which led him to launch his ground-breaking Halacha Headlines radio program.
The program airs weekly on several radio stations in the NY/NJ area as well as online as a podcast, and has a diverse, international audience of thousands of listeners. Mr. Lichtenstein has also authored to date two widely-acclaimed volumes under the title, Headlines: Halachic Debates of Current Events, a collection of scholarly essays exploring a wide range of fascinating, cutting-edge contemporary halachic questions, published by OU Press.
Mr. Lichtenstein is involved in many communal causes, both in the Orthodox Jewish community and beyond. He sits on the Board of Governors of the Real Estate Board of New York, and in 2015, he was appointed by NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio to the NYC Economic Development Corporation’s Board of Directors in 2015. Mr. Lichtenstein is frequently consulted by leaders from across the Jewish spectrum, as well as by business leaders throughout the world, for his advice on a wide range of matters involving business and policy decision-making.
